The Crypto-Cel FITC Stain, produced by Cellabs, was the first stain to receive UK Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) accreditation. It is an in vitro immunofluorescent test for the detection of Cryptosporidium oocysts in faecal and environmental samples.
The fluorescein-labelled monoclonal antibody reagent binds specifically to Cryptosporidium oocysts on the slide. Cryptosporidium oocysts stain bright green. Visualisation is enhanced by the Evans Blue counter stain, which causes background material to appear a contrasting red, and suppresses non-specific fluorescence.
Crypto-Cel FITC stains a wide range of Cryptosporidium spp., thereby meeting the requirements of the DWI regulation.
